Flu Vaccinations 2021

Service update : 

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to cancel the Flu Clinic scheduled for Saturday 11th September 2021.

 

All patients who had booked an appointment within that clinic will receive notification of their new appointment date; the time of your appointment will remain the same.  If the rescheduled date is not convenient, please cancel this appointment through the online services and rearrange at your convenience.  However, if you do need to contact the practice to rearrange your appointment, please do so directly on 01179 708991 after 2pm when our telephones are at their quietest.

Flu (Influenza) is a highly infectious virus with symptoms that come on very quickly and, which in some circumstances, can be very severe.  The flu vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine, it is offered free of charge to ‘at risk’ patients to help protect them from the flu virus and its complications.

Patients aged 80 years and over on 31st March 2022

To improve our patient experience, we will be working with the practices within our PCN (Primary Care Network), The Orchard Medical Centre, Three Shires Medical Practice and Green Valley Health to administer both the COVID Booster and Flu Vaccination together this year.  Our patients aged 80 years or over on 31st March 2022 will be invited to attend clinics which will run from our vaccination centre at Christchurch Surgery, North Street, Downend BS16 5SG.

We are currently awaiting further guidance regarding delivery of the COVID Booster, which is expected to arrive with us in September, if you are a patient within this age group, please be assured you will shortly hear from us with an invitation to attend.

18–64-year-olds

 

All persons over the age of 50 years and those with a long term condition aged 18-49 years will be eligible for the Flu and COVID Booster vaccine this year.  DHG are currently inviting the 18–49-year-olds within this cohort.  We have prioritised this 'at risk' group for the initial invites. 

 

Please note: this invite is to book for the flu vaccination only.  The COVID Vaccination Booster is not available to you at this time.  The finer details of the COVID booster programme is still being agreed at Government level, once further information regarding this programme has been released we will contact you.  In the meantime, please do not contact us directly but visit www.gov.uk for further updates.


65–79-year-olds

All those over the age of 65 years will be eligible for the Flu and COVID Booster vaccine this year. DHG are currently inviting all patients within this cohort.

Your Vaccination Experience

It is important to us that you are able to conveniently access our services.  Flu appointments have been made available within our core hours and at weekends, at various times of the day.

 

To ensure your safety:

 

  • We will operate a one way system;

  • Patients will be provided entry to the practice no earlier than 5mins prior to their appointment time;

  • Patients are asked to attend alone, unless they require the assistance of a chaperone or are attending as a couple for vaccination;

  • Patients are asked to wear a mask or form of nose/mouth covering;

  • You will be asked to sanitise your hands on arrival;

  • Patients are asked to remain socially distanced, chairs have been spaced to assist;

  • Patients are asked to remove their outer clothing and ensure their full arm is exposed before entering the treatment room in readiness for the vaccination;

  • Staff will be wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), or will be behind perspex screens;

  • Chairs will be wiped down between patients;
     

 

Booking your appointment

Appointments are available to book at any time via our online services.  If you do not have access to these services, please register via the NHS App www.nhs.uk/nhs-app   However, if you do need to contact the practice to book your appointment, please do so directly on 01179 708991 after 2pm, when our telephones are at their quietest. 

 

From 13th September 2021, should you be attending the practice for another appointment with one of our healthcare professionals, they may be able to administer the vaccination at that time.  Please ensure you ask them if this is not offered to you.
